Meet Northwest’s Board Chair

Anne Thompson has served on the BOG for over 20 years and has a great interest in theological training for young people. She has been a long time school principal, district principal, consultant for the Vancouver School Board, and Coordinator for the Implementation Branch of the Ministry of Education. Ann and her husband Ken have three children and four grandchildren.

Paul Beckett

Paul is from Albion Fellowship.  He is a medical doctor with BC Corrections.

Dale Beckman

Dr. M. Dale Beckman is Professor Emeritus, University of Victoria. He was formerly Head of International Programs for the Faculty of Business. He has extensive academic and business experience and has traveled widely in Asia, Europe, and the South Pacific establishing partnerships with other universities. Much of his academic practice has involved innovation and start-up activities. He was one of the founding professors of the Faculty of Business, and was responsible for building the successful International Business Program. He has served as visiting professor in various overseas assignments in Britain, New Zealand, China and Australia.

His work has been published in various academic journals and he has written seven different books on business.
His business experience includes advertising and marketing management, as well as consulting for various firms and associations.
Dr. Beckman has served on many different church boards over the years.

Gord Burton

Gord is the FEBBC/Y representative to the Board of Governors.  He is the Board Chair at Central Baptist Church, Victoria.

Merv Loewen

Merv has been an educator/administrator for most of his adult life. He is the owner of a construction/development company. He is/has been on numerous boards and committees. Merv and his wife Joan have two adult children.

Colin McKenzie

Colin is from Ladner Baptist Church.  He is the manager of accounting for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Harvey Peters

Harvey came to Christ at Marpole Baptist Church in May 1959 and that fall started at Northwest. Upon graduation with his BTh he married his sweetheart Beth Reeve, the daughter of his professors Norma and the late Grahame Reeve. They are the proud parents of 3 grown sons, and 7 grandchildren.

In 1963 he accepted the challenge to pioneer a Home Missions church in Squamish. Under his leadership the church was organized, and their current property purchased.

He obtained his BA Hon from SFU in 1970 and for 3 years was a Probation Officer for BC Corrections.

Following probation, he pastored and led in 3 major building programs -Emmanuel, Vernon, First Baptist Lloydminster SK. and Centennial Baptist in Markham ON. He has served as chaplain at the London Detention Centre for Youth, pastor at Pinery Baptist Church, and assisted the Komoka Mennonite Brethren church after it was levelled by a tornado. He has been ‘home’ in BC ministering as a chaplain for BC Corrections since 1991and has now retired.

Harvey has served on the Northwest Board and in BC & National Fellowship Home Missions. He has been Chairman of the Okanagan Association, Chairman of FEBCAST, has directed Fellowship camps, has been on the National Finance Board and has served on numerous other church boards. He has been actively involved in community associations such as the Crisis Pregnancy Association and the local Restorative Justice Committee.

Ken Robson

Ken was with the Bank of Montreal for 39 years, 11 years as an Executive Officer, serving in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. However, work assignments included locations from coast to coast, the US and Europe. He is a Fellow, Institute of Canadian Bankers.

He has been actively involved for many years in a variety of roles in churches across the country, especially in the area of Finance/Administration, including various church Boards and Committees. Ken and his wife Doreen are members of Central Baptist Church, Victoria where he has served as Treasurer and as a member of the Board.

Evan Scales

Evan served CN Rail as construction manager while he andhis wife Mary raised a family of 7 children. They are now grandparents tomore than a dozen grandchildren.

He is a founding member of the Dallas Barnhartvale Fellowship Baptist Church where he has taught Sunday School, served on various committees, and served as a deacon and chairman of the deacons board. He has also served on the Sunnybrae board, been chairman of the board and treasurer. He also assisted his wife when she acted as interim director of the camp on two occasions.

He served on the Northwest board from 1988 to 2000 and joined the board again in June 2001. In the past he has served on Northwest’s Policy and Procedure Committee and from time to time has been appointed by Council to the bylaws committee.

Brian Truman

Brian is a recently retired professor of management accounting and finance at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario.. Throughout his lengthy teaching career, he also taught at McMaster University School of Adult Education, the University of Glamorgan in Wales and in the professional program of the Certified General Accountants of Canada. As a Business Administration graduate and a professional accountant, he led Flamborough Baptist Church through a building program and served as the church administrator. Upon retirement he movedto Vancouver Island where he served as an adult bible teacher at Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church.
