First semester:

The student

  • has developed an understanding of the worldview of the ethnic group with whom they are working
  • has a positive relationship with their mentor who has made an impact in personal, intellectual and spiritual development
  • recognizes the need to contextualize biblical truths
  • has established positive and challenging non-Christian and Christian relationships within the ethnic community.
  • has had opportunity to share their faith
  • deals with cross-cultural stress in a positive manner
  • has developed a hunger for knowing God personally and intellectually
  • demonstrates an acceptable level of academic skill

Second semester:

The student

  • understands the principles of working with a "passive mentor"
  • fulfills greater ministry responsibility than previous semester
  • understands and begins to apply principles for contextualizing biblical truths
  • understands and experiences the role of church
  • learns discipleship principles and has opportunity to be involved as a discipler
  • demonstrates missional thinking in ministry
  • develops positive relationships in a cohort setting
  • understands issues relating to multi-cultural teams
  • exercises conflict management skills
  • is capable of using cultural evaluation tools
  • is able to follow an effective approach to language learning
  • understands the biblical basis for missions
  • demonstrates an increased dependence upon God through prayer

Third semester:

The student

  • develops language and culture aquisition skills
  • understands the dynamics of the missionary’s role
  • experiences the ways culture affects communication and church planting
  • develops an appreciation for the values and perspectives of another culture
  • is able to relate to others in appropriate cultural ways
  • understands the bases of human communication, the bases of worldview dynamics and the bases of cultural theological development.
  • successfully applies the principles learned previously within a ministry setting

Outcomes for the Cross-cultural MACS program of study:

The student

  • demonstrates competency and accepts responsibility in handling interpersonal conflicts
  • recognizes the value of team and functions effectively within one.
  • demonstrates commitment to a personal and community perspective of spiritual formation.
  • exhibits a spirit of love, patience and peace
  • has significant non-Christian and Christian relationships within the ethnic community.
  • is able to accurately contextualize biblical truths
  • is capable of teaching and discipling with clarity and relevance
  • is missional in outlook and practice.
  • becomes a significant and effective participant in cross-cultural evangelism / church planting.
  • understands the relationship of church and kingdom
  • is able to distinguish between the inculturation of the gospel and the imposition of culture.
