Who Says You Can’t Afford Seminary Education?

Student Financial Assistance at Northwest Baptist Seminary

Attending seminary can be expensive – not as expensive as buying a house, but possibly more than the cost of your next car. Investing in an education will take you farther than your car will, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t expensive. No matter how much we might value the education, it won’t do us any good if we can’t afford to access it. Fortunately, there are many good people who have been willing to give to help us at Northwest provide financial assistance to our students. There are two primary vehicles for financial assistance. They are…

1. The Fellowship Leadership Matching Grant

Northwest Baptist Seminary will participate in an even three-way tuition cost sharing arrangement with the student and his or her church for the duration of the student’s program. This program is open only to NBS students serving in Fellowship Baptist Churches.

details: Students apply one time only through submission of a letter of intent signed by the student’s church. Approval of the grant extends from semester to semester as funds permit. If any of the three parties fails to live up to the obligations of the agreement in a given semester the agreement is deemed to be void. The student is then free to make application again for a subsequent semester. The onus of responsibility is on the student to provide a check from his or her church by the deadline each semester. The deadline varies from semester to semester - contact the NBS office for details. NBS will only match funds that have been delivered by the deadline. Students must maintain program GPA requirements in order to continue to receive aid. The Fellowship Leadership Matching Grant cannot be combined with any other NBS/ACTS scholarships or awards. Further details can be obtained through the NBS office. 2. Northwest Baptist Seminary General Financial Aid

Northwest offers a limited amount of financial aid on a semester-by-semester basis to students enrolled in NBS.

details: Students make application for General Financial Aid through the NBS office. Application must be made each semester. Financial aid made in one semester does not guarantee assistance in subsequent semesters. Application deadlines vary from semester to semester. The applicant must check with the NBS office for exact deadline dates.

Other Means of Paying for an NBS Education

If we can’t help you through Northwest, there is still hope. Consider these other means of paying for your education at Northwest. Baptist Housing Ministry Grant: Scholarships of up to $500 per semester are available to pastors and missionaries who have been employed in a Fellowship Baptist ministry for at least three years and wish to take graduate level studies (Masters or Doctorate). Contact Mr. Howard Johnson (hmjohnson@baptisthousing.org).

ACTS Seminaries Student Financial Aid: You can explore the ACTS financial aid web page.

On Campus Employment: Students can apply for any of the many opportunities to work for pay on the TWU campus. Listings are available through the TWU Career Center. The Career Center will also work with NBS/ACTS students free of charge to assist in resume development and for job interview counseling.

Teaching Assistant Opportunities: ACTS supports a small number of Teaching Assistant positions annually. Students work under the direction of an ACTS faculty member. Amounts range from $600 to $800 per semester. Apply to the office of the ACTS Dean.

Outside Sources for Financial Aid: The Financial Awards office of Trinity Western University will provide information on other forms of financial assistance, such as government student loans.
